Our visit to the Music & Drama Education Expo in Manchester has confirmed that Musical Steps lays excellent foundations for learning.
Managing Director Cathy McCallum attended the event on Wednesday, and heard from many different organisations involved in teaching music to older children. Musical Steps activities act as a great preparation for all of them.
Just one example was the education manager from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden who spoke about using movement to illustrate musical structure. This happens regularly in Musical Steps classes. We use our imaginations to move to the music, changing actions or direction whenever a new section of music starts. We don't always refer to this as 'musical structure', but that's exactly what we're teaching and learning.
We're delighted to have been invited to deliver our own Musical Steps workshop at the next Music & Drama Education Expo in London early next year. We'll be demonstrating some of our activities, and explaining the theory behind what we do, and why it's so effective. Watch out for more details coming soon!
